about

It is Katlyn’s passion and skill which truly define her as a Pastry Chef. Attributes influenced in large part by her parents. A father skilled at restoring classic cars, a mother with a passion for bringing people together through food. Performing bodywork with her father taught her the importance of paying special attention to the details. Cooking with her mother taught her that food could be an art form through which she could express herself. These were the foundational moments of developing what would later make her one of the best in the industry.

Katlyn attended the Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Los Angeles where she graduated top of her class. Her formative years came during her time at a Luxury Resort under Executive Chef Pierino Jermonti.  It was there she was able to refine her skills creating traditionally elegant cakes and decadent desserts.

When the opportunity arose to join Duff Goldman of the show Ace of Cakes in opening a DIY cake decorating studio in L.A., Katlyn decided to take the leap. After a short time teaching others how to build and decorate, she was promoted to work in the Professional Decorating Studio, Charm City Cakes West. Her time in the studio was invaluable as she was able to work alongside some of the best cake artists in the industry. It was during this time that she was really able to challenge herself and expand her creativity.

In 2018 Katlyn decided to leave the City of Angels for Sacramento, the City of Trees. Along with new scenery, Sacramento brought about new opportunities. She soon accepted an offer to be the Executive Pastry Chef at Mulvaney’s B&L, one of the original fine dining farm-to-table hot spots. There she was able to work alongside some of the most well-known Chefs in Sacramento. Katlyn’s creativity was once again on display with a menu that changed daily based on what was available from local farmers. Looking for the next challenge, as well as the opportunity to pour herself into one of her passions, Katlyn felt the time was right to pursue her own business venture. Not only is she looking to create unique cakes and pastries, she intends to share her experience by teaching others to do the same. Katydid Sweets Co is an expression of 18 years of baking experience, influenced by a careers worth of talented Chefs and Artists she’s had the honor of working beside along the way.
